Emelia Probasco Named Chief Communications Officer at Johns Hopkins APL
Emelia Probasco has been named APL’s chief communications officer. In that role, she will lead organization-wide communication efforts to support and drive APL’s strategic vision. She will also oversee the Lab’s Office of Communications and Public Affairs.
Probasco has more than 10 years of experience leading operational, engineering, analysis and communication efforts in the U.S. Navy and at the Laboratory. Most recently she served as the special assistant to Assistant Director for Policy and Analysis Christine Fox. Prior to joining APL, Probasco served in the Navy as a surface warfare officer, with tours onboard the guided missile destroyer USS John Paul Jones and ashore as the special assistant and speechwriter to the chief of naval operations.
Probasco has been recognized as a Center for New American Security Next Generation National Security Fellow, is a Council on Foreign Relations term member, and is a member of the board of directors of the Association of American Rhodes Scholars. She holds a B.S. in political science from the U.S. Naval Academy, as well as an M.S. in forced migration and an M.S. in economic and social history from Oxford University, which she attended as a Rhodes scholar.
