BioMichael Misumi is the chief information officer, chief information security officer, and head of the Information Technology Services Department at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). Since 2008, he has led the 500-person organization that manages information technology for APL, while also serving on the front lines of cyber protection, securing APL networks from hackers and other outside threats. Prior to joining APL, Mr. Misumi was the deputy chief information officer of the RAND Corporation. In that capacity, he led operational cyber strategy development. Mr. Misumi is the official cyber advisor to the Johns Hopkins Board of Trustees, leads the Navy UARC Cyber Security Task Force, and is currently on the board of both the National Defense Information Sharing and Analysis Center and the Space Information Sharing and Analysis Center. He has led cybersecurity initiatives for the Office of the Secretary of Defense and previously served for several years on both the U.S. Strategic Command Strategic Advisory Group IT Task Force and the Computing Advisory Committee at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Mr. Misumi earned a B.A. and an M.B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles.
