Bio
BioDr. Howard Smith is a space physicist whose research focuses on Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Mercury magnetospheric science and instrumentation. He employs modeling and data analysis to study charged and neutral particle interactions. Dr. Smith was a member of the NASA Cassini CAPS and MIMI teams, co investigator on both the Strofio team (ESA’s BepiColombo mission) and the NASA Europa Mission’s PIMMS instrument team, guest investigator on the JAXA HISAKI mission, and participating scientist on NASA’s Juno mission. For more than eight years, Dr. Smith has led APL’s efforts to exploit commercial spacecraft, with seven payloads selected for flight under the NASA Flight Opportunities Program. Six missions have successfully completed, and nine additional flights are under preparation.
