BioCharles R. Madison is managing executive of the Asymmetric Operations Sector at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). He is responsible for delivering top-tier technical capabilities and facilities to support the Special Operations, Cyber Operations, and Global Health mission areas and their approximately 1,600 staff. Mr. Madison is a member of APL’s prestigious Principal Professional Staff. Previously, Mr. Madison served as supervisor of APL’s Infrastructure Systems Branch, with a mission to protect and exploit critical infrastructure and cyber-physical systems, and concurrently served as sector chief of staff. He joined APL in 2012 as supervisor of the Cyber Controls System Group. Prior to joining the Laboratory, Mr. Madison spent two decades at IIT Research Institute, advancing to become senior vice president of the Advanced Technology Group, and after that was executive director at the Maryland Environmental Service. Mr. Madison received the Black Engineer of the Year Special Recognition Award in 1998 for his leadership in service to operational U.S. military forces. Mr. Madison earned a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and an M.E.A. from George Washington University.
