Bio
BioDr. Brian Anderson is a physicist with significant experience in space magnetometry and basic research in space plasma physics and planetary magnetic fields. He was a magnetometer instrument scientist for NEAR and MESSENGER and contributed to spacecraft magnetics control and mitigation for UARS, NEAR, MESSENGER, and MMS. He was also deputy project scientist for MESSENGER. Dr. Anderson’s basic research focuses on plasma waves, Birkeland currents and magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling, and Mercury and Earth’s magnetic fields. He pioneered the application of platform Iridium constellation magnetometer data for rapid-cadence measurement of Earth’s Birkeland currents, which led to the establishment of the NSF Geospace Facilities and the Active Magnetosphere and Planetary Electrodynamics Response Experiment (AMPERE), for which he is the principal investigator.
