BioAndrew C. Oak is the mission area executive for Homeland Defense at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). He oversees research and development (R&D) to protect the nation and its critical infrastructure from air, missile, and asymmetric threats. Previously, Mr. Oak served as APL’s mission area executive for both Homeland Protection and Special Operations, where he defined strategy and directed execution of research and development in service to sponsors across the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, national intelligence, and countering weapons of mass destruction communities. Earlier in his APL career, Mr. Oak held a variety of technical leadership and supervisory roles spanning the communications and cyber domains. He served on the Radio Frequency (RF) Panel of the National Intelligence University’s Emerging Technologies Conference on Foundational Cyber Technology, on a Defense Science Board panel addressing cyber supply-chain issues, and as a member of the board of directors for the National Institute for Hometown Security. Mr. Oak joined APL in 1996, after earning an M.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Virginia and a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
