APL’s Stadter Earns Air Force Exceptional Service Award

Patrick Stadter, a program area manager with Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, has earned the U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff Award for Exceptional Public Service, the highest such honor presented to a civilian by the Air Force.

The award recognizes sustained and unselfish dedication, contributions, and exceptional support to the Air Force. Stadter was honored for his leadership and accomplishments while serving on the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board, which provides independent, expert advice to Air Force leadership on investments that help the service maintain its technological dominance in air, space and cyberspace.

In four years on the board, Stadter served as chair, vice chair and a panel member. His critical contributions included leading a team of senior scientists and engineers in a study of Air Force operations in highly contested environments, chairing a study on possible data fusion architectures for target location and identification, overseeing an assessment of critical space warfighting capabilities, and identifying and prioritizing vital underlying concepts and supporting technologies to enable essential capabilities — and proposing roadmaps to deliver those capabilities.

Stadter joined the Lab in 1989 and has published over 40 domestic and international papers. He earned a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Pennsylvania State University, an M.S. in electrical engineering from Johns Hopkins University, and a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Notre Dame.
