Bio
BioDr. Sal Nimer is a senior staff engineer with a background in solid mechanics, materials characterization, and developing custom mechanical experiments. Because of his expertise in custom mechanical testing, he has a unique understanding of the local mechanical behavior and failure mechanisms of complex material processing methods such as additive manufacturing, spark plasma sintering, and friction stir welding. His research primarily focuses on alloy development, performance measurement of additively manufactured metals to understand the effects of defects and process parameters, and developing characterization methods in pursuit of additive manufacturing qualification procedures. His areas of expertise include additive manufacturing, materials characterization, metallurgy, and microscopy, and crystallography.
