BioJake Strang supports NASA planetary science and heliophysics missions as a software and software systems engineer. He is currently the software systems lead for the Dragonfly Science Operations Center, and the developer of the command generation, validation, and uplink software for the EIS instrument on Europa Clipper. He also supports the design, development, and testing of instruments prior to launch through various analysis and instrument interface tools. This includes the control and data collection interface and facility automation software used during optical calibration of EIS and L’LORRI. Strang also developed the coordination and control software used to operate a suite of four camera on board a successful flight campaign testing the design of a new Midwave IR camera, and flew on all four science flights as the system operator. Other projects and areas of expertise include data pipelining, cloud and distributed computing, and virtual reality development. He also contributes to outreach and education efforts - teaching a Unity development course at the APL STEM Academy, and running various demos of a Lunar Geology VR application he helped develop. Strang is currently completing a master’s degree in Space Systems Engineering.
