Bio
BioDr. Andrew M. Lennon is a principal staff scientist who applies his expertise in the micromechanics of material deformation to characterization, selection, failure analysis, and design of engineering materials. His current projects include developing additively manufactured shape-memory alloys for use as small, lightweight, and low-power high-force actuators and shape-morphing structures. He is also the materials lead for the Standard Missile 6 Block IB control surface assembly development program. Dr. Lennon teaches a course on the origins of material strength and property-based material selection through the Johns Hopkins University Engineering for Professionals program. Additional areas of expertise include high-rate materials characterization, material characterization, metallurgy, microscopy and crystallography, and stimulus-responsive materials.
