Martin Sommerville

Martin G. Sommerville is the managing executive for the Force Projection Sector of the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). He is responsible for developing and sustaining technical staff and capabilities and for ensuring the organization delivers high-quality, impactful solutions for Laboratory sponsors. Prior to his current assignment, Mr. Sommerville held a variety of leadership roles at APL, including as Flight Systems Branch supervisor, rotational deputy managing executive, and supervisor of the Global Navigation Satellite Systems and Satellite Tracking (SATRACK) Systems Group. His technical background includes over 15 years of developing innovative GPS signal processing algorithms along with their associated real-time data collection and processing systems used to evaluate the accuracy of the nation’s sea- and landbased strategic missile systems. He also led the development of cutting edge position, navigation, and timing (PNT) systems for a variety of national security applications. Mr. Sommerville earned a B.S. in electrical engineering from Marquette University and an M.S. in electrical engineering from the Ohio State University.
