Galpin Named Assistant Director for Programs at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory
Timothy J. Galpin has been appointed Assistant Director for Programs at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, Laurel, Md., and in that capacity will oversee APL’s diversified portfolio of more than 600 engineering, research and development programs.
Galpin previously led one of the Laboratory’s more dynamic business areas, Infocentric Operations, guiding research into cyber activities for the defense and intelligence communities. In addition to his appointment as assistant director, Galpin will serve as the Laboratory’s Chief Quality Officer, ensuring that APL delivers the highest possible quality products and services on time and under budget.
Galpin joined the Laboratory in 2004 after a career as a naval officer, with service in submarine operations as well as Navy staff positions in defense policy. Galpin is a Rhodes Scholar who earned an M.A. from Oxford University and a B.S. from the U.S. Naval Academy. He writes on defense and cyber issues and serves on advisory panels in acquisition and technology.
