Robinson Named Security Officer of the Year at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab

Security Officer Michael D. Robinson has been named APL’s Officer of the Year for 2002. He earned the award by achieving the highest appraisal score among 74 Security Officers at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Md.

“I was genuinely surprised but feel very honored and excited about being recognized,” says Robinson, who lives in Reisterstown, Md. “I love my job because I work with a great team of professionals, and it makes the challenging task of protecting the staff and interests of the Lab much easier.” Robinson, who has been at APL nearly six years, previously served eight years in the Army.

Also honored at the Dec. 4 ceremony were Top Rated Shift Officers James Cheak and James Hooper, both of Laurel, Md., and Roger Hill, of Silver Spring, Md.

Security Force Chief James Whalen said at the ceremony, “Since 9/11, we have faced many challenges upgrading physical security at the Lab. These officers set the example for all security officers to follow.”
