Lisa Blodgett Selected to Lead Force Projection at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory

Lisa Blodgett has been named head of the Force Projection Sector at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland.

As sector head, Blodgett will oversee the work of three mission areas focused on ensuring that force projection will provide capabilities for warfighter mission success: Precision Strike, Sea Control and Strategic Deterrence. She succeeds Dan Tyler, who after 45 years of distinguished service will step away from his duties at the Laboratory.

Blodgett most recently served as the mission area executive for Sea Control, overseeing projects that included the Advanced Processor Build Program, a model for providing affordable and impactful capabilities to the submarine fleet. She also oversaw the companion Advanced Capability Build and Advanced Surveillance Build programs that integrate new capabilities into surface and surveillance anti-submarine warfare systems. Recently, Blodgett led an initiative to integrate capabilities to enhance operational cybersecurity of submarine combat systems.

“Lisa is a highly accomplished leader who is well regarded across the Laboratory and within the broader technical community,” said APL Director Ralph Semmel. “She brings innovative approaches to each endeavor and leads the development of technologies that have game-changing operational impacts.”

Blodgett has served the sector in a variety of capacities since 1991, taking on increasing responsibilities and leadership roles. She also serves on a Defense Science Board Task Force on next-generation unmanned undersea systems and an advisory council for the NDIA Undersea Warfare Division. In addition, she has served on the Submarine Superiority Technical Advisory Group.

Blodgett holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University and master’s degrees in electrical engineering and technical management from Johns Hopkins University.
