APL Named to Baltimore Magazine’s “Best Places To Work” Hall of Fame

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, Md., has again been named to Baltimore magazine’s “Best Places To Work” list. Additionally, because APL has received this honor many times before, the Laboratory is now a member of the inaugural “Best Places To Work” Hall of Fame.

Baltimore magazine managing editor Ken Iglehart explained that APL was named to the Hall of Fame because it has been “consistently recognized for its fascinating and energized work environment, good spectrum of benefits, employee engagement, and stability during turbulent economic times.” The “Best Places To Work&rdquo article will appear in the magazine’s February issue, distributed on January 20.

“We’re obviously thrilled to be named again to the list of best places to work in the region,” says Laboratory Director Ralph Semmel, “and we’re particularly pleased to make it into the new Hall of Fame in our first year of eligibility. Being named to the Hall of Fame demonstrates that we’re achieving our goal of having a stimulating work environment where bright minds can thrive, and people enjoy coming to work.”

The Applied Physics Laboratory, a not-for-profit research division of The Johns Hopkins University, solves complex research, engineering, and analytical problems facing our nation. APL works on more than 600 programs that make critical contributions to national challenges and the field of space science. APL moved to Howard County in 1954 from Silver Spring, Md., where it opened its doors in 1942. Today, APL has approximately 5,000 staff members, making it Howard County’s largest private employer.
